Ah, the trophy room. Where would the trophies be without it? In the Manor, I guess. There is a total of >1001 trophies, which would never fit in one room. So never mind that. So what trophies lie in the trophy room? What are their bizarre origins? Let's take a tour, shall we?
It's gonna be a long one, guys:
The Giant Penny:
Originally: Taken from the Penny Plunderer (Joeseph Coyne), who committed penny based schemes (he's one of my favorites). It was used by Batman to take down two thugs escaping a penny exhibit Coyne was robbing. Fun Fact: It's actually a Wheat Penny, and if you don't know what that is you have obviously never collected coins. I'll blog about it later.
New 52 origin: Taken from no one (well, technically Riddler or Philip Kane). It was a prop outside the Wayne Enterprises Building, which Lucius Fox used to block a wireless signal to control robots. After it went "missing", Wayne Enterprises replaced it with a giant quarter.
Originally From: Worlds Finest #30 1947: The Penny Plunderers!
New 52 Origin From: Batman Vol 2 #33: Savage City
Mechanical T-Rex:
Taken from Stephen Chase, who used robot Dinosaurs and Cavemen to fight Batman and Robin.
The one he is riding is the one that became the trophy.
The Mechanical T-Rex also serves as the Batcave's defense:
Don't you tell me you haven't read Batman Court of Owls. There's no lying on this here blog. ...Maaaybe some exaggerations though.
From: Batman #35, 1946: Batman on Dinosaur Island!
Giant Joker Card / Giant Joker Mask:
Here's the long part. Start paying attention.
Originally: It was a Giant Mask Replica of the Joker's Face, which he used in various schemes. the first time it appeared, it was actually what beat Joker:
Batman #53
As you can see, Batman kept a Hairpin in that case, not the Mask (yet). It briefly ended up on Batman Island (Batman #119):
Joker most likely stole it back and then re-used it in another scheme, after touching it up a bit:
Batman #144
Most likely, this is the issue that Batman kept it after. As time went on, it became a Card hanging in the cave, not a Giant Mask.
From Batman #..108?
The earliest appearance of the Joker Card, according to Prop Stars, is Batman #99:
Except, like I said, the mask appeared in Batman #119 and #144, which is after the Card. And the Mask is hanging in the cave in #108. So I suppose that the chronology is: Batman #53 --> #119 --> #144 --> #108 --> #99? I feel so bad for 40's and 50's comic readers.
Either that or they are two separate items, which would leave the Joker card still with no origin.
When exactly it became a Card is lost in time. Somewhere in the 60's though. By the 70's there was a card though.
New Earth Origin: In New Earth, the Joker Mask was almost completely forgotten. However it still existed. In this Continuity, the Joker Mask and Joker Card are actually two separate items. Although he probably did use it as a crime, The Joker Mask was part of Decor in the Joker's base:
As far as I'm aware, they never had a Joker Card origin for New Earth.
New 52 Origin: The Joker Mask has not appeared anywhere in the new 52 except on this Variant cover of Batman Vol 2 #36 by Greg Capullo:
Hint: Look at the top around the logo.
The Giant Joker Card was actually created by Batman, after he found one of Joker's Cards floating around in the Batcave. This created the possibility that Joker has been in the Batcave, so he created the Giant card to remind him of the possibility.
Later, this caused paranoia among the Bat-Family that Bruce hadn't told them the possibility that Joker had been in the Cave and could have knew all along who they were.
Joker Mask:
(Originally) From: Batman #53 1949: A Hairpin, a Hoe, a Hacksaw, a Hole In the Ground
(& Also Batman #144, Batman #119)
New Earth: Batman: Dark Detective part 2
Joker Card:
(Originally) From: Batman #99: (cameo in a story)
New 52: Batman #15, 2013: Death of the Family

...Whew. Let me catch my breath.
That was long. I don't do this for myself guys. I actually I do, but mostly for all of ye.
So that's that. The Penny, The T-Rex, and The Card Origins'. Like The Mechanical T-Rex, I'll post a blog sooner or later specifically about The Penny and Joker Card in more detail about them each.
Also I'll post about the other trophies too, but later. It's a lot of work fo' sho'. I did not pull that off, i'm a white blogger who reads Batman comics.
(Side Note:) I didn't include the DCAU origins, but will touch on that later.
Well, my ride's here:
See you with some trophies whenever I feel like posting next!
